Let us introduce ourselves

WoodDo is the venture of husband-and-wife team, Awie and Martie Potgieter. We live, love and work in beautiful, sunny South Africa. Awie is a metallurgical engineer and have been in working in heavy industry for most of his adult life. The Covid pandemic gave him the opportunity to leave the rat race and entertain his creative and adventurous nature. His engineering background made it easy to slip into the role as ring crafter. Being a partner in this small family business, affords him the opportunity to make time for his true passion – discipleship and community service.

Martie is a work from home, mom and serial hobbyist. For the last couple of years, her main pastime has been woodwork, creating furniture and decor from reclaimed wood and other materials. It is during this time that she started making rings and other jewellery as well.

We focused on making hand crafted rings during 2020 when the Covid Pandemic brought our lives to a standstill. We both found that we loved being creative together and that we made a pretty good team. Before long, our Covid hobby grew into this small family business.

In the first two years our small business grew in leaps and bounds, and we just could not manage everything on our own. Fortunately, the apple does not fall far from the tree and Martie’s parents, Japie and Pikkie Cronje, joined the team.

Awie & Martie have been married for 21 years and have a teenage son and daughter.
